New Massage Modalities at SRC!

Spring has sprung, and SRC is here to to put a little more spring in your step with some exciting additions! Sometimes newer is better, and while we are adding new massage offerings, they are all derived from ancient techniques.
Gua Sha: Gua Sha, also called “spooning”, “coining”, or “scraping”, and has been used by the Chinese as a household remedy for everything from shoulder and neck pain, to expelling the common cold. Like cupping, it helps break up knots in the fascia, the thin layer of connective tissues that covers all your muscles, and also helps boost blood circulation. This is achieved by using a special tool that could be anything from a porcelain soup spoon to a jade stone, which is used to scrape the affected area.

Cupping: Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Unlike what is commonly seen on television or the movies, our therapist does not use fire to create the proper suction. They use varying techniques and cups depending on each guest’s needs.

Ashiatsu: While Ashiatsu has been offered at SRC since the beginning, two more of our talented therapists have completed their training to keep up with the ever growing demand for this ancient technique. Ashi, as it is commonly called, uses the therapists feet to achieve full, deep bodywork to relieve chronic pain and muscle tension.
